Cosmic Blobs is an inexpensive 3D animation program for kids. Its interface is kid-friendly (perhaps a bit over the top), but can give younger students an excellent experience in dealing with simulated three dimensional space. High school students (if they can get back the sillyness of the control panels) interested in 3D animation will find an interesting introduction here. Cosmic Blobs could also be used by teachers to help demonstrate the capacity of composition in the rendering of three dimensional objects in two dimensional space. If your students are doing still lives, cosmic blobs can be used to quickly demonstrate the effects of changing the scale, placement and angle.
