Here's a rare opportunity to see Al Hirschfeld working on an illustration of Paul Newman in various stages. Its great to see the process. One thing that I find interesting is the way he uses loose sketchy lines to plot out his caricature. My high school art teacher and mentor, Chris, always taught us to be confident in our lines and get away from 'the sketchy'. I think focusing on doing just that made me a stronger artist, but I'm certainly not going to second guess the master of lines himself.
Well, as they say, "different strokes for different folks" - how appropriate, in this case.
