Papercraft Movie Player

Although this Disney papercraft movie player is little more than a glorified flip book, it sure is cool. No, its more than that. As a video teacher, I was always looking for opportunities to get the students working with their hands. 90% of the time, they're either behind the camera or the computer. Animation often provides good hands-on opportunities, but this project also gives the students something physical to work on as a completed project (other than a DVD). If you follow the downloadable .pdf directions, you'll notice that on page five they include the Disney cartoon that you play in the player. Take that page, throw it into photoshop, and remove all the images. Viola! The students now have a template for their animation. You can give them this template digitally or as a handout (depending on your lesson). Perhaps they could also think of a creative way of re-designing the outside, so that the player that showcases their artwork is also a piece of artwork in itself.
