BMW presents a new concept: the GINA light model. Chris Bangle, director of design, discusses Geometry, Function, Infinite, Adaptation as ideas that inspired this car design; an alternative to conventional motor vehicles and metal in general. I showed the above link to my students today and they were amazed, but also wondered what would happen in a crash.... hmm... can't tell you, but it's still a cool concept and an interesting use of materials. I'm sure engineers are working on the safety part as we speak.
