Joe Alterio has an amazing fundraising idea. If you donate to the San Francisco Aids Marathon though this site, he will send you an original painting of a Monster or a Robot. Your choice. Send him three words or phrases to customize your own personal creation. All of his drawings will also be posted on his Flickr page.
Why Robots or Monsters? Why not?
Order your robot/monster now- its a good cause and Alterio will close up shop for a bit on May 22nd. However, he promises to return with a bigger version of this project- more charities, more artists involved.
As a side note, Robots and Monsters is a wonderful way of combining advocacy and artistic challenges, using web 2.0 tools. This would be a fun project to adapt for school fundraising programs as well- challenge students to draw Monsters, Robots... Animals, Teachers, Administrators... whatever, using donor suggested characteristics to raise money for that field trip, new kiln, etc. etc....
Anyway, its a fun idea, and a great cause. Can't wait to get my robot!

Awesome find!
And I think I'm going to adapt this into a project using some form of creative writing to raise funds (or etc.) once I'm teaching.
I'm glad you're thinking about adapting his idea- it has so many possibilities. I'm on the lookout for an opportunity to do that as well!
